Bricks to Blocks

Building blocks create much more than simple structures – they build careers. The hours spent playing with building blocks on rainy days as a child teaches basic building principles and has marked the turning point when many of us wanted to become architects, designers and engineers. This was indeed the case for us – and it’s presumably also true for the creator of LEGO Architecture, Adam Reed Tucker.

Adam has decided to open Blocks to Bricks, the world’s first and only museum celebrating the history of three-dimensional building toys and exploring how they inspire the creators and innovators of tomorrow. The museum will open on 15th June at the prestigious Woodfield Mall in Chicago, and we are thrilled to announce that Arckit is prominently on show and has earned a place alongside some of the all-time greats in the building block category. Our finest advocate of Arckit, architecture major Rick Fairhurst, has created some stunning models using Arckit that you will see on display in the new museum.

The interactive 7,500 square foot gallery tells the story of iconic building toys such as LEGO, Erector Sets, Lincoln Logs and many other construction toys from around the world including our very own Irish-made Arckit. Imagine viewing the evolutionary development of your favourite childhood toys while interacting with the principles and design elements that make them unique.

There’s even a 1,200 square foot retail space that include Arckit products and also offers rare and one-of-a-kind collector’s items that you won’t find in regular stores. If you want to take away a smaller souvenir of the day, there’s even an injection moulding machine where you can create your own brick in nearly any colour you can imagine.  We’re so thankful to Adam Reed Tucker and his team for inviting us to be part of this truly unique Blocks to Bricks experience. If you’re in the Chicago area, be sure to drop in.
